Medela's SpecialNeeds Feederis a specialized feeder designed for babies with cleft lip and palate and other special feeding problems. It can also be helpful with colic. This type of feeder rewards babies who have even the weakest feeding effort. The one-way valve prevents flooding and overwhelming the baby.

Mead Johnson Cleft Palate Nurser

Mead Johnson Bottle is a soft squeeze bottle with long cross cut nipple for children with a cleft lip and palate. The Mead Johnson Bottle is designed to be "pulse" squeezed with baby’s suck and swallowing. Longer nipple allows milk to be directed past the cleft and cross cut allows increase flow with squeezing. NUK and premie nipples also work well on this bottle. The holes on the Mead Johnson Bottle nipples may need to be made larger to allow milk to flow faster.

Medela's SoftFeeder® is a specialty feeding device for infants, designed forusewhen health care professionals recommend cup feeding. After cleft lip and palate surgery your doctor may recommend that your baby does not feed from a regular bottle so that the repair will not be damaged by the sucking movement that is normally made.The SoftFeeder allows the caregiver to administer the fluid to the child without any effort on the child's part. The chamber fills with fluidwhen sqeezed like theSpecial Needs Feeder, but it has an open spoutinstead of ateat. This allows the caregive to control theamountof the fluid available.
